From Dhaka Medical College to colorectal surgery fellowship
Born in Narayanganj, Dr. Ovi completed SSC and HSC with distinction from Cumilla Cadet College. He earned his MBBS and completed internship at Dhaka Medical College. After advanced training across surgical disciplines, he achieved FCPS (Surgery) in 2016 on his first attempt. He later undertook higher colorectal surgery training at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and earned a second fellowship, FCPS (Colorectal Surgery).
Professional career
Public health service and specialist surgery
Dr. Ovi joined the BCS (Health) cadre in 2014 and has served with distinction as a consultant surgeon in different parts of Bangladesh. He currently works as Assistant Professor and Resident Surgeon (General Surgery) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He worked for years as an assistant physician to legendary colorectal surgeon Professor A. K. M. Fazlul Haque and developed advanced colorectal cancer surgery expertise under the direct supervision of laparoscopic colorectal surgeon Professor Shahadat Hossain Sheikh.

Dr. Ovi is active in clinical teaching and surgical outcomes research. His professional CV lists 21 publications across colorectal cancer, anal fistula, laparoscopic surgery and general surgery. He is an International Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), an International Member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), a Member of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), and an Executive Committee Member of the Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh (SOSB).
